I’ve had a few requests via Twitter for borscht recipes, because, according to my Doukhobor heritage, I should know how to cook it. As I say on my Yelp profile, I don’t cook, therefore I restaurant. As for the Doukhobor thing, that’s a whole other post entirely. Look it up. Thankfully, my mom is a fantastic cook, even if she refuses to make anything from a Paula Deen cookbook (like this awesome creation that I am so making for her one day, if I ever decide to turn on my oven)....

As promised,  below are several recipes from the traditional Russian dinner my parents recently prepared for some special guests. Last summer, Ma and Pa Markin graciously agreed to auction said dinner at the Penticton Art Gallery’s annual Starry, Starry Night Art Auction.
